Dal Palak (Parippu Cheera Curry)


Toor Dal - 1 cup

Chopped spinach - 1/2 cup

Chopped Onion - 3/4 cup

Chopped tomato - 1/4 cup

Green chilli - 3-4 nos.

Cumin seed - 1 tsp

Mustard seed - 1 tsp

Asefoetida - a pinch

Garam masala - 1/2 tsp(optional)

Curry leaves - 1 strand

Turmeric - 1/4 tsp

Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp




  • Cook toor dal with turmeric till it is well mashed,mash with a spoon.
  • Cook spinach.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seed,cumin seed.Add garlic,green chilli,onion.Sauted till onion turns slightly brown.
  • Add tomato , salt,asafoetida and cook till tomatoes are slightly tender.Then add red chilli powder,garam masala powder sauted well for another 2 seconds.
  • Pour cooked dal,spinach into above masala mix,and mix well.
  • Finally add some curry leaves and remove from heat.
